SHE has lived through two world wars, witnessed the reign of no less than five monarchs and 26 prime ministers, and was friends with a survivor of the Titanic disaster. Now a sprightly centenarian with a head for heights is about to enter the Guinness Book of Records for the second time in five years as the oldest person to take part in paragliding.

The achievement is all the more remarkable for the fact that she only took to the skies, at the age of 104, because the same record she set five years ago was broken by a 101-year-old American.

Peggy McAlpine, who has two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, successfully claimed back her title two weeks ago after leaping from a 2,400ft peak in northern Cyprus.

Following the breathtaking tandem paraglide, which has been posted on YouTube, the Stirling-born daredevil celebrated her feat with a glass of Champagne.

She is now awaiting for the record to be confirmed by Guinness Book officials but warned she will be more than happy to do it again on her 105th birthday in October.
