Abu Dhabi: The Federal Supreme Court has granted an employee the right to seek Dh3 million in compensation from his employer for falsely accusing him of bribery.

The Emirati employee, a laboratory technician in a government department, had been accused of bribery. The case was presented to the Court of First Instance, which acquitted him. He was then fired from his job for undisclosed reasons.

He filed a case with the Court of First Instance demanding to be reinstated in the same grade and same financial privileges as his ex-colleagues who had joined service the same day as him. He also demanded compensation of Dh3 million for back pay and financial and emotional damages.

The Court of First Instance ruled in his favour on November 30, 2010. However, his employer appealed and got the decision reversed. The employee then appealed to the Federal Supreme Court, which overturned the second court's decision. "I trust the law in our country. I suffered a lot and for a long time among my family and friends. My integrity was questioned and my reputation was damaged," he told Gulf News.
