Seychelles shark attack: Bride describes moment husband was killed

A newly-wed bride who saw her husband killed by a shark in the Seychelles, yesterday described the moment she heard his screams as she read a book on the beach and realised that he had suffered “very serious injuries”.

Gemma Redmond, 28, told an inquest into Ian Redmond’s death, that he had been snorkelling around 20 metres out to sea when she became aware of a commotion.

She said that no one had warned them about the death of a French tourist at the same resort just weeks earlier.

But she said she did not want her husband’s legacy to be dominated by the “awful accident” which made people feel “sad and distressed”.

“It is my wish he be remembered for his special qualities and the way he enriched the lives of his family and friends for 30 years .
