A FRAIL 82-year-old Tasmanian man will likely die behind bars after being sentenced to eight-and-a-half years for the killing of an alcoholic woman in Perth 20 years ago.
Ronald Leslie Pennington was found guilty by a Perth Supreme Court jury in Western Australia today of killing 41-year-old Cariad Anderson-Slater in July 1992.
He was found guilty on the alternative charge of manslaughter after a one-week murder trial.
Pennington was extradited from Tasmania last year after the skeletal remains of Mrs Anderson-Slater were unearthed from his former backyard in the western suburb of Woodvale.
Mrs Anderson-Slater, after a drunken argument with her husband, had taken a taxi to Pennington's house in the early hours of July 13, 1992.
